Diver Training

The club runs courses for Ocean Diver, Sport Diver, Dive Leader and Advanced Diver grades, as well as several Skill Development courses (see our Courses page).

Ocean Diver is the BSAC entry level qualification; we run about 1-3 courses annually depending on demand, theory and pool instruction takes about 6-8 weeks, with 5 open water training dives required follwing this (if this seems long in comparison to Dive Schools please remember that our instructors give their own time to do this). The minimum entry age for diving is 14 years.

If you want to sample what it feels like to use SCUBA you can book a Try Dive in the swimming pool. We will provide all the equipment you need, although you may find it useful to bring your own mask and fins if you have them.

For details of Try Dives, or if you want to learn to dive please contact the training officer, Stewart (see contacts page for email details).

Instructor Training:

Please remember that all instructing is done by volunteer instructors.  These are people that give their time for the pleasure of seeing trainees succeed and progress their diving within the club, and to put something back in to organisation.  Indeed another route to refining and honing your skills once you have become competent is to become an instructor.   If you are a member considering becoming an instructor the starting point is to attend an Instructor Foundation Course (IFC).

Upcoming IFC's in the North West region are -

Sat 12/4/08 - Blackpool
Sat 22/11/08 - Liverpool

More details of these and other North West courses are on the regional web site.

You can book on courses in other regions.  More instructor training information and details of national courses can be found on the BSAC website instructor training pages.
